Week 8 Announcements

  1. Florence Elementary
    Date: Friday, May 25th
    Time: 11:00AM-1:00PM
    Location: Meet at Peterson Loop

    We will be doing fun STEM related activities with 3rd graders at Florence Elementary school! Message or email Renu Singh (res001@ucsd.edu) if interested in volunteering. We will be meeting at Peterson loop at 11am and getting back to campus by 1. Drivers get one extra point!

  2. Faculty Nomination

    If you know of a faculty who is deserving of Faculty of the Year (see details below), please nominate them using the linked form. The two professors with the most nominations will be chosen for the award. You may put the same professor down for both of your nominations if you'd like. Background on the award: Each year TBP awards 2-3 faculty members with Faculty of the Year awards for their positive influence on the lives of young engineers. The award is based entirely on UCSD TBP member nominations and will be presented at our annual End of the Year Banquet (on the evening of June 2nd)! [DUE Tues. 5/22 @ 11:59pm]

  3. End of Year Banquet
    Date: Saturday, June 2nd
    Time: 6:30-8:00PM
    Location: CSE 1202

    Celebrate the end of the year with your fellow Tau Bates with free food and networking! We will be reminiscing the fun events and achievements we had this year, giving faculty awards, and introducing our new board for next year. Please RVSP here: https://goo.gl/forms/Tyq9MB1jhVtOMzha2.

  4. Feedback: As part of our efforts to make this chapter the best we can, we’re looking for feedback from our initiates and members about anything and everything. This includes things you’ve like and disliked about our events, the initiation ceremony, etc. and any suggestions you have for events you wish we held. If you have feedback for us, please contact any of the officer board and we’ll be happy to arrange some time to speak to you! We’re really looking to get as much feedback as possible, so don’t be afraid to reach out, even if it’s just to say you liked an event. We look forward to hearing from you!

  5. Coffee with an Officer: Most of you have probably heard of Coffee with a Prof, but we’re bringing you Coffee with an Officer! Get to know your officers and what they do over coffee, a meal, a gym session, etc. for 1 social point maximum. Each outing counts as 1 point. If you are with a group of officers, it still only counts as 1 point. You can only get a point once per officer. If you’re already friends with an officer, please focus conversation on TBP and the officer’s roles/responsibilities. Decision to award points is at the president’s judgment.

  6. Non-TBP Hosted Events: This is a reminder that non-TBP hosted events are still eligible for points so long as they align with our professional/academic or outreach goals. To receive points for non-TBP hosted events, a short write up, half-page to one page, is necessary with a picture of you at the event. The write up should discuss why this event is aligned with TBP goals and what you did/learned. If you are unsure if an event would count, contact any of the officers. Your reports should be emailed to tbp@ucsd.edu for approval.

Additional Announcements

  1. TBP will now be partnering with the IDEA center to provide tutoring help to students through IDEA’s Engineering Learning Communities! These are 2 hour sessions dedicated to helping students in their PHYS 2 series, CHEM 6 series, and MATH 20 series (including MATH 18). Please email Miguel Alcantar (m1alcant@ucsd.edu) if you interested in volunteering or have any questions.
  2. TBP has an opportunity for you to get involved in planning. There are planning committees for each of the 3 categories of TBP points. This is a great way to stay involved and get more leadership experience.
